A personal journey toward holistic health

A real life example of our WAY OF HEALTH Model ™

Imagine a solid oak tree rooted in mother Earth and flourishing steadily to reach Heaven. Every minute, hour, day and year since its birth, this tree seamlessly develops; nurtured by the soil nutrients, water streams, air, light and our love.

Naturally healing from adversity and adapting to its surrounding; this oak tree gives us unconditional love and receives protection from us; it connects and partners with its fellow trees and animal friends; it rests at night and in winter so that it can continue growing until Mother Nature decides there is an end to its story.

We are not much different from this beautiful oak tree really. Although we have a mind, that can sometimes tear us apart if we are not careful, like this oak tree, human life is essentially an endless sensory experience.

The WAY OF HEALTH MODEL is designed to bring this sensory experience – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – into the diamond-shape-prism of the most important aspects of life: movement, nourishment, reflection, connection and rest.

Years ago before becoming a Health and Wellbeing Therapist , and as I was finding my way out of distress and exhaustion, I learnt to look after myself holistically – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually – and to consider my optimal health as the main asset I truly possess in life. Also, my connection with Mother Earth helped me compassionately accept my natural limitations and find my own path toward light, peace and wisdom.

Here are some outcomes of my journey of recovery, discovery and self-development.

MOVEMENT

Relearning about how to move holistically allowed me to develop more meaningful body awareness, my dislike of physical activity has given way to a real love of body movements. The unknown is not to be feared and I can embrace the beauty of change.

NOURISHMENT

Comfort eating has been replaced by an appreciation of the benefits of healthy nutrition. Emotional self-sabotage has made way for emotional self-appreciation, and I see learning as self-development rather than simply for outward, material gain.

REFLECTION

The path of self-development has in turn stopped me from getting caught up in life events, now I learn from them. Accepting, and not being overwhelmed by emotions, and finding peace in the relationship between body and mind.

CONNECTION

I no longer have a fixed view of the world as I connect with my heart to see the world from its many dimensions. There is pleasure from giving and receiving in my relationships, they are not one-way streets.

REST

Exhaustion has gone, I’m now physically and mentally energised. Prioritising rest means I manage my priorities and have space to recharge. Mistakes are not the end of the world, it’s what we learn from them that’s important.

This journey was the most challenging, yet the most amazing and unpredictable experience I have ever had in my life. I eventually accepted this experience has no endpoint, it is a life-long path and will never be a straight line. Like an interrupted stream with its rocky, merky and sandy bed, ups and downs are part of my unfolding life that gets me closer to optimal health and well-being every day.
